The Florence Marathon, 32nd edition, will take place on November 29, 2015, The route, a ring embracing the entire city of Florence, remains unchanged. Beginning at Lungarno della Zecca Vecchia, the route will finish in the Piazza Santa Croce, a pearl in the heart of the historical city center. Since 1984, when a few hundred runners took off for the first edition of the Florence Marathon, the race’s organizing committee is constantly growing and diversifying its activities. Not just a Marathon, the Florence Marathon is the second largest race by participation in Italy. The organizers, coordinated by Giancarlo Romiti, also hold various other prestigious races throughout the year. All of the races start and end in historical piazzas in the Florence city center, just a few steps from the Santa Maria Novella train station.
This year begins with Avon Running, a race for women whose proceeds are all destined for charity. The race, 5 kilometers long, will he held on April 19, 2015.
Sunday morning of May 10, 2015 Guarda Firenze will take place. The 10 kilometer race, in its 43rd edition, is an educational event, and teachers and students can participate on the Mini Guarda Firenze course. In conjunction with this event Palazzo Vecchio will recognize young students who enrich their understanding of the city of Florence. Guarda Firenze is the first historical street running event organized by the Florence Marathon committee. The 10km race is open to everyone and is continually frequented by runners hailing from outside of Tuscany.
May 15 and 16, 2015 the Luigi Ridolfi stadium will host the 28th edition of the International Meeting of atletica Firenze Multistars. For the third consecutive season Florence Marathon together with the regional committee of Fidal, the 10+7 Club and the three main athletic organizations in Florence will finance and organize this international meeting. The meeting will have test races for both males and females, among many other exciting events. The event is spread across two full days of racing, and grand champions.
May 17, 2015 will be the Deejay Ten, a race partnered with the radio network, lasting either 5 or 10 km.
Saturday evening, June 20, 2015, the Notturna di San Giovanni takes place. This 10 km race precedes the feast day of Florence’s patron saint, and takes place throughout the city center. It is the second oldest race in Italy, and this year will be the 76th edition. Participants come from all over Italy to participate in this race that touches all of the historical highlights of Florence’s center, illuminated at night, for an exciting atmosphere. Almost the entire race is cordoned off, constantly immersed between two groups of cheering crowds all the way to the finish line.
September 27, 2015 will see Corri la Vita in its 13th edition. A race through the most beautiful streets of the city, it hosted over thirty three thousand participants in its 2014 edition. Proceeds from the race go to LILT, an organization dedicated to fighting breast cancer. The race has both 5 and 10 km routes.
Then, on the eve of the Florence Marathon, November 28, 2015, the Marathon Expo will be held at Luigi Ridolfi Stadium. The 30 for 1 km relay will be held in honor of Mauro Pieroni.
In the meantime, Firenze Corre continues, with its meeting point at 7:00 p.m. in Piazza Duomo. The guided training changes routes, and goes at pre-determined paces thanks to the pacemakers who participate from Training Consultant di Fulvio Massini. The series of evening runs began on October 8, 2014 and will run through June 10, 2015.
